Standard Psychological First Aid Certificate Course – Public Class (SPFA)

 

Course Objective:

This course aims to provide psychological first aid training to people who have to handle stressful situations or crisis in daily life or at work. Combining the theory and application of psychological first aid, candidates will learn methods for stabilizing emotions and communication skills. Candidates can also master the use of Look, Listen and Link through standard practice activities.

 

Course Contents:

  • Psychological reactions and impacts caused by traumatic events
  • Applicable situations for psychological first aid
  • Five evidence-based guiding principles of psychological first aid
  • 3L core actions (i.e., Look, Listen, Link) of psychological first aid
  • Understanding empathy and its application in psychological first aid
  • Skills for stabilizing emotions
  • Common communication skills in psychological first aid
  • Preparation for psychological first aid and self-care
  • Standard practice of psychological first aid (two scenarios)

 

Course Duration: 9 hours (extra 1 hours 20 minutes for examination)

 

Class Size: 12 to 30 candidates per class

 

Entry Requirement: Only candidate fulfilled the following criteria will be accepted.

  • Aged 18 or above, & 
  • Completion of Form 6 or above education

 

Medium of Instruction: Cantonese or English

 

Instructor: Psychological First Aid Instructor or Psychologist of Hong Kong Red Cross

 

Course Fee: HK$1,940 per head (Including examination fee and certificate)

 

Examination Contents:

Paper 1:
Online Written Examination

40 multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks questions and etc. (complete within 20 minutes, passing score is 28 out of 40)

Paper 2:
Role Play Examination

Provides psychological first aid to individuals in need, such as local fires, car accidents, or personal accidents (time limit: 12 minutes, total score: 90 points, candidates must score at least 50 points in the examination to pass)

 

Certificate:

Candidate should fulfill the following criteria in order to get the Standard Psychological First Aid Certificate. The certificate is valid for three years.

  • 100% attendance rate (counted by sessions; tardiness or leaving early for more than 15 minutes in any session will be considered as absence)
  • Pass in both Paper 1 Online Written Examination and Paper 2 Role Play Examination

 

Re-examination:

  • Candidates who fail the Paper 1 Online Written Examination or Paper 2 Role Play Examination can apply for one Paper 1 Online Written Re-Exam of Standard Psychological First Aid Certificate Course (REPW) or Paper 2 Role Play Re-Exam of Standard Psychological First Aid Certificate Course (REPR) and must complete it within three months from the first examination date. The fee of Paper 1 Online Written Re-examination is HK$100. The fee of Paper 2 Role Play Re-examination is HK$ 300.
  • Candidates who fail both Paper 1 Online Written Examination and Paper 2 Role Play Examination must retake the whole course. (Full course fee will be charged).

Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters (Address: 19 Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon, Hong Kong). We could provide training at client’s premises; clients can also rent our premises for training. Please contact our staff for details.
