Standard First Aid & Automated External Defibrillation Certificate Course (Blended Learning) (SAB)

 

Course Objective:

Hong Kong Red Cross remains committed to upholding core vision of promoting “First Aid for all’. This course aims to provide students the basic theory of First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) via the online curriculum, along with adequate face-to-face practices on practical first aid skills and the operation of AED.

Estimated Online Learning Hour(s): 6 to 9 hours

Practical Sessions Duration: 18 hours (extra 3 hours for examination)

 

Class Size: 16 to 24 candidates per class

 

Entry Requirement: Aged 15 or above

 

Medium of Instruction: Cantonese or English

Examination Contents:

1. Standard First Aid Examination:

a. Written examination

-  30 Multiple Choice Questions (complete within 20 minutes, passing score is 15 correct answers)

b. Practical examination

-  Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

-  Bleeding Management (complete within 6 minutes)

-  Fracture Management (complete within 6 minutes)

2. Automated External Defibrillation Examination:

a. Written examination

-  25 Multiple Choice Questions (complete within 25 minutes, passing score is 18 correct answers)

b. Practical examination

-  Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

Certificate:

Students should fulfill the following criteria in order to get the Certificates which are recognized by the HKSAR Government with 3-year validity respectively :
  1. 1. Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Complete the Online Curriculum before examinations
  • 100% attendance of Standard First Aid practical sessions
  • Pass in both Standard First Aid written and practical examinations
  1. 2. Automated External Defibrillation Certificate
  • Complete the Online Curriculum before practical session
  • 100% attendance of both Standard First Aid and AED practical sessions
  • Pass in both AED written and practical examinations

*No examination result will be given and no certificate will be issued if the students do not fulfill the above requirements.

 

Certificate Renewal:

Before the expiry date of the certificate or within 6 months after the expiry date of the certificate, participants can attend a Standard First Aid Certificate Refresher Course (SFAR) and Automated External Defibrillation Certificate Refresher Course (AEDR) and pass the examinations to renew their certificates with 3 years validity.

 

Re-examination:

  1. 1. Standard First Aid Examination:
  1. a. Candidates with 1 or 2 parts failed in the examination can apply for re-examination (RE) once. A fee of HK$150 (1 part) and HK$250 (2 parts) will be charged. All re-examination should be taken within 6 months from the date of first examination.
  2. b. Candidates with 3 or all parts failed are required to retake the whole first aid course. (Full fee will be charged)

 

  1. 2. Automated External Defibrillation Examination:
  1. a. Candidates who failed the written examination can apply for re-examination (REA) once. A fee of HK$150 will be charged. All re-examination should be taken within 6 months from the date of first examination.
  2. b. Candidates who failed the practical examination can re-take their examination once on-site for free.

 

Training Venue:

We could provide training at client’s premises; clients can also rent our premises for training. Please contact our staff for details.

 

*Remarks:

1. Estimated Online Learning Hour: Actual learning hour may depend on individual progress. Login notice email will be sent around 2 weeks** before practical curriculum. Students are required to finish reading all pages in the online study part using their own account before the end of exam and such contents will not be accessible after the exam.

2. Online Study Requirement: Courseware will be in the best view using Chrome browser in Windows desktop computer with good network connection. (It is NOT recommended to use mobile phone to view the courseware which may involve great use of data.) and please avoid open more than one tab of browsing.

3. Hong Kong Red Cross reserves all rights to make alternation on the above terms and acceptance of student enrollment.

 

** The online curriculums of this blended learning course would start 2 weeks before practical curriculums. Corporate or organization shall take the first day of the online curriculum as the course commencement date of the class for application.
