Psychological First Aid Elementary One-day Course (1-day PFA)

What is PFA?

Psychological First Aid (“PFA”) is not counseling, but aims at establishing a human connection by active listening and providing practical assistance in a non-intrusive and compassionate manner. It enhances immediate and ongoing safety, and provides physical and emotional comfort. As research showed that inappropriate psychological interventions can do harm on the affected people, PFA is an evidence-informed intervention approach designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster adaptive functioning and coping capacity. PFA intervention strategies are intended for use with children, adults, parents/caretakers, families, and communities exposed to emergencies. It can also be provided to first responders and other disaster relief workers.

Course Objective:

This course mainly focuses on equipping participants with the basic Psychological First-Aid(PFA) knowledge and action principles. Apart from theory, the course offers role playing exercise for participants to practice PFA. Through lectures and interactive workshops, our external training program aims to provide a better understanding for the participants of mental health to reduce their impact, equip with the psychological support skills and enhance their resilience and coping abilities during emergencies.
