General Enquiry

 
1. How can I make application for a course?
You can apply the course via (a) online application, (b) by postage or (c) in person.

(a) Online Application
To register as student via this online platform, pick a class, select related training materials and then pay the fees by credit card. If you settle the payment by MasterCard or Visa, a non-refundable surcharge might apply, you will be asked to confirm the total before you finalize your payment.

(b) Postage (Except ERB Courses)
To apply by postage along with a completed E01 application form for general courses and a crossed cheque (payable to: Hong Kong Red Cross) sending to "4/F, Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters, 19 Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon", please indicate “Application for First Aid / Health Training Course” on envelope. Postage application will be processed in about 5 working days.

If the course is not listed on the application form, please write the course name with class code under “Other, please specify:”. For example, “Other, please specify: Nursing Care Experiential Training Course (CWS17001) / Health Talk (TALK17001)”.

To apply for Advanced First Aid Certificate Course (AFA) (Cantonese only), please complete application form.
To apply for Teaching Methodology Course (TM) (Cantonese only), please complete application form.
To apply for Psychological First Aid Elementary One-Day Course (Cantonese only), please complete application form.

Applicants should visit the designated training centers in person to complete the application procedures scheduled for particular date and time. No application will be accepted without a prior appointment or if the required documents are missing. Applicants can make up appointments via the phone (2603-0188) or this online platform.

Certificate in Upgraded Caring Skills for Health Workers in Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities I & II (Part-time)
Applicants can submit the required documents in person to Head Office (4/F, Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters, 19 Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon) during the office hours (email or fax applications will not be accepted).

Integrated First Aid Certificate Course (Part Time)

2. When and how can I collect the exam result or certificates?
10 working days after the completion of Individual course or examination, we will send email to the student to notify the detail about exam result or certificate collection. Please collect the certificate (may require extra charge for certificate for particular courses) within 6 months from the certificate issue date at our headquarters office, otherwise, it will be written off; or apply online after login the online platform;or indicate to apply for postage service in E02 Special Request Item Form and send the form to head office together with a crossed cheque (payable to “Hong Kong Red Cross”). Please mark “Postage of Certificate” on the envelop. Certificate postage service costs HK$30 per student (special price).

Please bring along your HKID copy / E06 Certificate Collection Authorization Form, which the authorization letter is required if you do not come to collect by yourself, and class code & examination date to collect the examination result / course certificate at our head office.    #back to top
 
 
3. Is it necessary to provide full HKID?
No. You may provide the letter and the first 3 digits of your HKID only and the rest number shown on certificate will be hide using "*". However, students is recommended to provide complete personal information for identity verification purposes.    #back to top

5. What is considered valid proof of educational attainment?
Valid proof of education attainment includes graduation certificates, transcripts, school leaving certificates, reissued education certificates, or assessment reports provided by the HKCAAVQ. However, additional documents may be required based on the application and/or academic requirements of individual courses.    #back to top

7. The class that I applied was cancelled. How would you process my payment for the course and material?
If the class you applied was cancelled, you will receive notification from our staff. You may consider changing to another class, or ask for refund of your paid course fee and / or material fee. If you choose not to refund the material fee, you may collect the material in person at our Headquarters office. Refund will be made by cheque posted to you directly in about 4 to 6 weeks. 8. I have lost the course certificate issued by Hong Kong Red Cross. Can it be reissued?
Yes. Please apply online after login the online platform or complete the E02 Special Request Item Form. The form can be submitted in person at our Head office or send the form together with a crossed cheque (payable to “Hong Kong Red Cross”) to our Head office. 9. I applied a blended learning course. How do I access the online study content?
Student who enrolled successfully will receive an email about login ID and password around 3 weeks before the practical session. Please ensure the email address you registered during enrollment is correct. If you do not receive email notice from us, please kindly contact us.    #back to top
 
 
10. I applied a blended learning course. Do I need to finish the online study content before practical sessions?
If you have registered for a one-day course, please complete the online learning before the practical class. If you have registered for a course that spans more than one day, you only need to complete the online learning before the examination date. However, if you study the online theory part before practical sessions, it will be easier and more efficient in learning the practical skills.    #back to top
 
 
11. I already applied a blended learning course. Why I cannot go to next page in the online study part?
Student are required to study every page of the online theory part before going to next page in order to keep correct progress marked in system. You are only allowed to skip the page if you have already read that page before.    #back to top
 
 
Corporate Course:
 
12. What kind of courses can corporates or organizations apply for?
We offer a range of first aid and health training courses for corporates or organizations, such as the 30 hours Standard First Aid Certificate Course recognized by the Government of HKSAR, 2-3 hours of First Aid Talk, 4 hours Elementary First Aid Course and 3hours Adult/Child/infant Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate Course. Corporate or organization can choose the targeted training based on the content and duration. For the details, please check it out via the online platform.    #back to top
 
 
13. How do corporates or organizations submit application?
Corporate or organization shall submit the application form via the (a) online application or (b) by postage, (c) by fax or email.
For application of first aid training course, please submit the application at least 6 weeks before the commencement date of the class. Please sign and return the service agreement at least 4 weeks before the commencement date.
For application of health training course, please submit the application at least 10 weeks before the commencement date of the class. Please sign and return the service agreement at least 6 weeks before the commencement date.

Remarks: The online curriculums of all blended learning courses would start 1 to 2 weeks before practical curriculums (please refer to the following table). Corporate or organization shall take the first day of the online curriculum as the course commencement date of the class for application.

We will process and reach the contact person via email in about 5 to 7 working days after received the application. We will send the service agreement to the contact person by email, please return a signed and chopped copy by email or fax. 14. What’s the requirements of training venue?
There shall be provided adequate exercise space with good condition. The venue size depends on the types of courses to be conducted, for example, it requires around 700 to 800 sq. ft for a SFA class venue with 16 participants. Please also prepare the following equipment for the class:
  • Computer, projector (or television with USB port)
  • Screen / Television
  • Whiteboard
  • Audio equipment
  • *Towel and mat (1 set for every 2 participants)

15. How much is the rental fee for training rooms?
Rental service includes the provision of venue, classroom facilities (chairs / tables / white board / Projector & Screen / audio visual equipment), electricity and air conditioning. Additional equipment charge of using computer is $50 per hour. Room Charges are as below:

16. How can we apply for material delivery service and how much does it cost?
Please indicate to have delivery service in application form, training materials and/or equipment will be delivered to you by 1 or 2 working days before the course commences. If returning training materials and/or equipment if required, collection would be made within 1 or 2 working days after the course completion.

Depending on training venue, service charge is different:
Hong Kong Island: around HK$300 per trip
Kowloon: around HK$170 to HK$220 per trip
New Territories: around HK$220 to HK$420 per trip

It includes the tunnel fee but not apply to delivery address without elevator, please contact us for more details.    #back to top
 
 
17. What’s the arrangement before class commencement?
We will send out 1) participants list (in excel format), 2) Adverse Weather Arrangement and 3) Important Notes for Students to the contact person by email. Please follow the instruction in the email to upload the completed participants list in our online platform (do not make any change of the format), and return the materials order form or relevant certificate (if applicable) to us TWO weeks before the commencement date of the class by email.

Please also distribute the important notes to participants and remind them to bring along their ID card or passport during the lesson.

Besides, corporate or organization shall collect ordered materials and/or loaned equipment at least 1 working day before the course commencement date and return them 1 working day after the exam or class completed at 4/F HKRC Head Office. Please apply for delivery service if necessary. Any late return will be charged for HK$50 per day for each equipment.    #back to top
 
 
18. When shall we process payment?
For corporate or group, please settle the payment 14 days from the date of the invoice issued or the course commencement date (whichever is later). For non-profit organization, please settle the payment within 14 days after the completion of service. For government authorities, please settle the payment within 6 months after the completion of service.    #back to top
 
 
19. When can we collect the exam result or certificates?
The collection date will be sent to the contact person by email about 1 month after the examination / completion of course. Please collect the certificate within 6 months from the certificate issue date at our office, otherwise, it will be written off; or indicate to apply for the mailing service in application form. It costs HK$100 per class for certificate postage service. 

Please bring along the E06 Certificate Collection Authorization Form or organization staff card / HKID and class code & examination date to collect the examination result / course certificate at our office.

In no case shall the certificates of the participants be delivered to the Company or arrange any examinations before the Total Service Charge is fully paid.    #back to top
 
 
20. If the minimum number of participants required for the course cannot be met, can we still apply for the training?
Yes, but you will be charged according to the minimum number of participant. For example, the number of participants for Standard First Aid Certificate Course is 16-30 persons. Therefore, the minimum application fee will be charged for at least 16 persons. If the number of participant is more than 16, we will charge them one by one additionally.    #back to top
 
 
21. If the number of participants and training materials required cannot be confirmed at the time of application, what shall we do?
If such details cannot be confirmed at the time of application, the Service Agreement and Invoice will be issued according to the minimum number of participants.

Please confirm your final number of participants and required materials by returning the participant list and the material order form to us at least two weeks before the course commerce. A supplement invoice will be issued for additional number of participants and extra training material required.    #back to top
 
 
22. If corporates or organizations only accept one invoice, can it be arranged?
Yes, but please confirm the details of number of participants, training materials and related services required in the application form at once in your application. There shall not be any refund or deduction of any part of the service charge for those participant(s) who is(are) withdrawn or absent from the course after the Agreement signed.    #back to top

23. What kinds of document proof is required for applying refresher courses of first aid training?
Please provide any one copy of first aid certificates recognized by the Commissioner of Labour Department under the provision of Occupational Safety and Health Regulation (OSHR), Cap 509A, for applying the SFAR course (accept application with the certificate which expired within 6 months on course commencement date).
 
Please provide a copy of the AED certificate below for applying the AEDR course (accept application with copy of certificate which expired within 6 months on course commencement date).
  • Hong Kong Red Cross AED Certificate  
  • A&E Training Centre, Hospital Authority AED Certificate
  • Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Association AED Certificate
  • AED Certificate issued by any training bodies of National Safety Council
  • Scout Association of Hong Kong AED Certificate
  • A&E Training Centre, Hospital Authority
  • Hong Kong Auxiliary Medical Services AED Certificate
  • AED Certificate, AHA Certificate issued by any training bodies of American Heart Association
 
 
24. If my first aid certificate had already expired, is it necessary to take the 30-hour standard first aid course again?
As soon as your certificate expired not more than 6 months on the course commencement date, you may take the refresher course instead of the 30-hour standard first aid certificate course. If the certificate already expired for more than 6 months, you need to take the standard first aid certificate course or standard first aid certificate course (blended learning).    #back to top
 
 
25. How would you process exam result appeal?
After the application is received, we will follow the Exam Result Appeal Guideline to review the exam paper to see whether the marking is corresponding to our assessment standards. It takes around 2 weeks before applicants receive a written reply.    #back to top
 
 
26. If I cannot attend the course due to personal reason, can I change the class or ask someone to attend the course instead?
Yes, but we only accept application once and application must be submitted at least 10 days in advance to the course commencement date (online learning start date for blended learning or self-learning courses). If you ask someone else to attend the course, student replaced is not allowed to apply for change of class; If you would like to change the class, you are not allowed to apply for change of student. The new selected class should be commenced no later than 3 months of the original course commencement date, otherwise, it will be considered as automatic abstain. You should make sure your application qualification is still valid on the course commencement date of new selected class, otherwise all paid fee will not be refunded. Change of class is not applicable to some courses of family & kids series. Please apply online after login the online platform or complete the E02 Special Request Item Form. The form can be submitted in person at our Head office or send the form together with a crossed cheque (payable to “Hong Kong Red Cross”) to our Head office. 27. If I cannot attend the exam, how do I apply for delay of exam? Is there anything I should pay attention to?
We only accept application once and application must be submitted at least 10 days in advance to the examination date. The new examination date must be within 4 months after the original examination date, otherwise, it will be considered as automatic abstain. Applicant should make sure the application qualification is still valid on the new examination date, otherwise all paid fees will not be refunded. Application of deferment of examination applies to the course of SFA, SFAR, SFAS, SFAB, YFA and re-exams only. Please apply online after login the online platform or complete the E02 Special Request Item Form with Delay Exam Schedule. The form can be submitted in person at our Head office or send the form together with a crossed cheque (payable to “Hong Kong Red Cross”) to our Head office. 28. Is it necessary to buy course material like first aid manual, video card, bandage pack, etc.?
No, first aid manual, video card and bandage pack are not compulsory to buy. Some courses may require students to prepare their or bandage pack or relevant training material. If you take standard first aid certificate course (blended learning), the online theory part does not cover the practical knowledge on bleeding handling and fracture handling and you are not allowed to view the online theory after examination had finished, which you may buy first aid manual and/or video card for revision or future reference if needed. 29. How do I collect the materials I ordered?
The materials you ordered will be distributed during lessons and you do not need to collect them in advance. If you do not receive the materials due to absence in class, please contact us during office hours after the course is finished and please present the payment receipt of materials and authorization letter when you come to the Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters to collect the materials (authorization letter is only needed if you do not come by yourself).    #back to top
 
 
30. If I failed the exam for Standard First Aid Certificate Course, do I need to attend the lesson for re-exam course?
No, you may choose to attend the exam directly. The aim of revision class is for student to get familiar with the subject content but it will not count for the attendance.    #back to top
 
 
31. How can we settle the payment if any of our candidates apply for the deferment of the examination?
In general, the candidate should apply and submit the E02 Special Request Item Form in the name of an individual.  If invoice is needed, please send us the form by email and state your request “INVOICE REQUIRED”.    #back to top

32. After enrolling in the course, is it possible to cancel my application or apply for change of class / class postponement?
No cancellation / postponement / change of class / refund of course fee would be accepted unless we have decided to cancel the class due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseeable difficulties arising from running the course.    #back to top
 
 
33. If I fail to pass the examination(s), can I have make-up examination(s)?
Please refer to the course outline of individual course for details. Once the course provide the re-examination and the student missed it without any specific reason, we will treat it as giving up all the re-examination chances.   #back to top

34. What are the general admission criteria for Employees Retraining Board (ERB) courses?
General Admission Criteria for all ERB training courses:
(i) Eligible employees of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) (i.e. lawfully employable and not subject to conditions of stay, including permanent residents of the HKSAR and new arrivals)
(ii) Aged 15 or above; and
(iii) Education attainment of sub-degree or below

For individual courses, applicants have to meet the specified admission requirements in addition to those listed above.

Foundation Certificate in Care-related Support Worker Training (RC011DS)
  • Completed Form 3 of secondary education; and
  • Unemployed, non-engaged, or dropouts from school; and
  • Ability to understand simple English; and
  • Pass the interview

Certificate in Health Worker Training (RC009DS)
  • Completed Form 5 of secondary of education (must be able to provide proof of educational attainment) with at least 2 years of working experience; and
  • Unemployed, non-engaged, or dropouts from schools; and
  • Fulfill the registration requirements for health workers specified by the Social Welfare Department; and
  • Pass the interview

Certificate in Upgraded Caring Skills for Health Workers in Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities I (Part-time) (RC003HS)
  • Registered Health Workers under the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance who are not currently working at residential care homes for persons with disabilities

Certificate in Upgraded Caring Skills for Health Workers in Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities II (Part-time) (RC002HS)
  • Registered Health Workers under the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance who are currently working at residential care homes for persons with disabilities; or
  • Registered Health Workers under the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance who are not currently working at residential care homes for persons with disabilities and have completed the course entitled “Upgraded Caring Skills for Health Workers in Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities I (Part-time)”    #back to top
 
 
35. Are ERB training courses only available to applicants aged 18 or above?
Non-engaged youths aged between 15 and 17 who have attained up to secondary school education are advised to apply for the “Youth Training Programme” (YTP) courses. If an applicant is not intended to enroll in the YTP courses available and can provide adequate justification, an interview will be conducted to evaluate the situation. Recommendation may be made to request the ERB to exercise its discretion, and approval of such a request is at the discretion of the board.

36. Are interviews needed to apply for ERB training courses?
Interviews are mandatory for applicants interested in Full Time Placement-tied courses (i.e. Foundation Certificate in Care-related Support Worker Training and Certificate in Health Worker Training). 2. Proof of highest education attained (original copy & photocopy); and

3. Stamped ($ 2.0) and self-addressed envelope; and/or

4. School leaving certification (applicable to those who graduate or discontinue enrolment from non-ERB full-time education programme within the last 6 months [from the date of application])
1. Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card; and

2. Proof of highest education attained (original copy & photocopy); and

3. Proof of 2 years or above working experience (original & copy); and

4. Stamped ($2.0) and self-addressed envelope; and/or

5. School leaving certification (applicable to those who graduate or discontinue enrolment from non-ERB full-time education programme within the last 6 months [from the date of application])
1. Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card; and

3. Health Worker Registration Certificate issued by Social Welfare Department (original & copy); and

6. Proof of employment at a residential care home for persons with disabilities (applicable to registered health workers under the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance with current employment at residential care homes for persons with disabilities)

38. Can applicants cancel applications/enrollment after notification of their successful admission of ERB training courses?
Cancellation of applications/enrolment should be made, in person or in writing, to the Training Bodies offering the courses. For enrolled applicants who fail to cancel course applications duly and do not show up for the course, they will be deemed as “absent” and the paid course fees (if applicable) will not be refunded.    #back to top
 
 
39. Is Applicant possessing overseas education certificate eligible for ERB training courses?
In general, applicants with non-local educational qualification may determine their equivalent local education attainment based on the number of years of school education received.

However, seeking a certificate in Health Worker Training will require compliance with the registration requirements established by the Social Welfare Department. Hence, applicants with non-local educational qualification MUST provide an assessment report from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). The assessment report should indicate that the overseas education attainment is equivalent to completion of Form 5 or above in Hong Kong. In addition, the proof of education attainment listed in the report should be provided.    #back to top
 
 
40. Can I apply for ERB training courses if the required proof of education attainment was lost?
Under general circumstances, should applicants fail to provide proof of education attainment at the time of first application, they may make declaration on their highest education attained in the duly signed “Course Application Form”, confirming that all information provided is correct and complete.

However, seeking a certificate in Health Worker Training will require compliance with the registration requirements established by the Social Welfare Department. Hence, at the time of application, applicants have to provide legitimate proof of education attainment.    #back to top
 
 
41. What are the differences between Certificate in Health Worker Training and Foundation Certificate in Care-related Support Worker Training?
In addition to different entry requirements, they will also lead to diverse career paths. When graduates with a Foundation Certificate in Care-related Support Worker Training apply to be a Patient Care Assistant IIIA at the Hospital Authority, they will be considered qualified candidates with equivalent training. On the other hand, graduates with a Certificate in Health Worker can apply to become a registered Health Worker.    #back to top
